Wild Writing
Hosted by best-selling Australian children’s author Rebecca Johnson, this flexible workshop program can be tailored to meet relevant learning outcomes for students from Prep through to Year 7.
Students and teachers will learn about the process Rebecca undertakes to write her children’s books. They will have hands-on involvement, use their imagination, participate and support their peers and most importantly, be inspired to write!
All of Rebecca’s books feature:
• Strong moral messages based on the 52 virtues (e.g. truthfulness). • Australian • Stunning photographs, most from the Steve Parish image library
Some options include:
Large group sessions (two classes maximum, 45 minutes in duration)
• Discuss Rebecca’s writing process, including the stages a book goes through to be published. • Whole group activity — children work with Steve Parish photos to develop a class book outline, using the same process as Rebecca. Teachers are then able to keep these photos with an audio tape of their story to make big books.
Smaller group (more specialised sessions for a single or a select group of students, flexible duration — 1 hour to full day).
• Discuss Rebecca’s writing process. • Children choose their own Steve Parish photos, and make a start on writing individual stories after sequencing their pictures. This style works best if teacher and parent helpers can join in the process. • Autographed books available on the day.
